May Court Term 1824

James Honaker preceded a return of the survey of laying off the Public Square according a formal order of the Court made here to fore appointing him to lay off and survey one acre of land Donate to use and benefit the County of Pike by Elijah (Adkins) on the land and premise where the Commissioners appointed by the late Act of Assembly to say where the permeant seat of Justice should be Established and said Commissioners so appointed fore said seat at or on the Bottom now lies Described and Stake Stuck in the Ground said station and said report is received by this Court and is ordered that the same report be be here recorded which is in the following wards and figures to wit. Surveyed on March 23rd, 1824.

   After appointing Commissioners to say what place the Courthouse shall be built in they returned with the following words and figures to wit. The undersigning Commissioners appointed heretoafter to draft a place for a courthouse shall be hewed logs 24 feet square. The edge of the log to be straightened and chinked with stone and lime. One and a half high Covered with shingles, the lower floor to be laid with Planks half over the upper floor with Planks allow a good Pair of Stairs to be run. A seat for the Judge to set on and a bar for the Lawyers . Doors and windows to be inside the 17th May, 1884.

Order that this County Court do not agree to pay any to James Honaker for the building Court house for Pike County as it appears to be a volunteer thing by James Honaker by Superscription.
