The machine in the picture is a Salem Auger Model-1500.
Tackett-Manning Coal Corporation had several mining operations working simultaneously during the coal boom of the 1970’s. The big Compton Augers were one of their favorite machines. This Coal Auger was involved in a high-wall failure at their Dunham operation August 20, 1973.
