In the photo of the men standing at mine entrance , this was the mine rescue team. They had won an award in competition. The individual at the left was my father Lawrence Smith. The photo would have been in the mid 50’s.

We had 14 years of sheer joy doing sports, playing top 40 hits, and Dr. Don’s nightly analysis of the latest album hits from “THE MUSIC PROFESSOR”. My Great-great grandfather, John C Branham was captured in the Battle of Piketon. I’m not sure if he was involved with the Ivy Mountain skirmish. I’m just starting to research him. Thanks for putting this very interesting article together. Thoroughly enjoyed the read.
